Citizens Advice have been asked to gather evidence to support the Child Poverty Strategy that the government will be launching in Spring 2025.
We are looking at how household costs have pushed families with children into poverty and hardship and how families are struggling to meet essential and daily household costs, such as:
– Has a rise in rent/mortgage forced you to cut back on groceries. Are you requiring crisis support such as food banks, baby banks, energy vouchers?
– Have utility bill increases forced you into making tough choices between heating the home or affording children’s items, e.g. clothing (school or otherwise), nappies etc?
– Has the cost of childcare made it difficult to afford other essentials or forgo employment as the high expenses associated with childcare can outweigh potential earnings?
Gathering this evidence will help us gain a deeper understanding of how households with children are managing rising/high essential bills and living expenses, and the wider impact this has on child poverty and hardship.
